15 Games To Add To Your Game Cupboard

One thing we always give as gifts in our family is games. We are big game players. We love playing games when we get together with our extended family. We have game nights with our friends. We just love games!

I thought I would share with you our favorite games and maybe give you some ideas for the game lovers on your Christmas list! We have plenty of games over the years; some we love and some we don’t love so much. I’m not sharing any of the games that we don’t love. I’m only sharing what have been hits in our family!

Last Christmas, we bought a new game called “Speak Out.” You can see by the pictures that this game is a lot of fun. Basically, you put a mouthpiece in and have to “speak out” a phrase and get everyone else to guess what you are saying. We all bust a gut laughing so hard while we played. I know it may seem gross to use the mouth pieces, but don’t worry, you can run them through the dishwasher and sanitize them just like any cup you drink out of. Let go of your vanity and give yourself a good laugh with this game!

One of our new favorite games is a game called “Code Names”. Some friends of ours brought this game over for a game night and we are hooked. My sister-in-law went out and bought it over Thanksgiving so that we could play it. It’s a game of clue; you give one clue word to get your teammates to guess a set of words. The trick is to get them guessing the right words without them guessing the other team’s words. You’ve gotta use that creativity and critical thinking skills to win the game!

“What Do you Meme” is a funny, laidback game that is a great group game. The idea of the game is simple: a picture meme is presented and you choose a card from your hand that you feel goes best with the meme. You never know what crazy phrases will pop up and you’re sure to get good laughs at the different combinations.

There are two different packs of phrase cards that come with this game; one pack is more of PG-13 level, but you can easily keep those cards out and keep this a clean, family game.

We’ve played the game “Smart Ass” at a few get-togethers with friends. Don’t worry; despite it’s name, it’s a clean game that tests your trivia skills.

If you like card games, “Five Crowns” is a card game that we’ve recently played with friends that we enjoy. It’s a good game to sit around and play while having casual conversation together.

While spending a week with my daughter and her new baby, we played a lot of games. Some were games I’ve already mentioned, but our favorite game that we played  was a dice gamed called “Qwixx”. We played this game at least three times a day while I was out there!

“Balderdash” is another gut buster. It uses creativity; the objective is to hear a word and make up a definition that you think fits the word. If the judge of that round chooses your card, you win a point. It’s hilarious to hear some of the definitions that people come up and you expand your vocabulary while you’re at it! (They are all real words; just not words you ever hear).

“That’s What She Said” is a great group game but is definitely PG-13 with adult, crude humor. It is similar to “Apples to Apples”, but you won’t want to play this one with the kids around. Keep it for the adult game nights.

“Scattergories” is an oldie but goodie. We’ve been playing this game for years, but it never gets old. I could play it again and again.

Some other “oldie” family favorites include: “Farkel”, “Phase 10” (there’s a card version and a dice version; we prefer the dice version), “Yahtzee” and “Skip Bo”. These make great stocking stuffers or gift exchange presents!

My all-time favorite game is “Taboo”.  Not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty good at this game. If you’ve all seen the movie “Four Christmases” then you’ve seen the objective of the game (that was a pretty funny scene!) This game never gets old!

What are your favorite games to play? I am always looking for more to add to my gaming collection, so be sure to drop me a comment and let me know!
