Little Monster Birthday Party

Happy #PartyTimeTuesday!

As promised last week, I am delivering you new party ideas every Tuesday! This week, we’re gonna take it back to my baby’s 1st birthday party! That was almost 7 years ago now… I can hardly believe it. Where does the time go?

Ryder turned a year old on Friday the 13th, so it seemed only natural to play on that theme. Of course I didn’t want anything gory or gross for my 1 year old (I wouldn’t really want it for anyone…I’m not a gory kind of gal), but I came up with a cute theme that worked with Friday the 13th: “Our Little Monster Is Turning 1”.

We invited our close friends and family, and then most of our family wasn’t able to make it, so it was a small affair. But it was a fun little party that I will always remember. Take a look at these cute ideas and be sure to scroll to the end where I am posting links on where you can find everything!

Let’s start with the cake! I wanted something simple. My mom was a great cake decorator. She truly had a talent for it. I don’t have quite as much patience as she had for it, but I can do simple. This cake was easy; I stacked a couple of rounds on top of each other and used a spatula to create a choppy texture. For the eyes, I pierced jumbo marshmellows with lollipop sticks, which I dipped halfway in white chocolate that I had dyed. I put a dab of the melted white chocolate on the back of a chocolate chip and stuck it on for the pupil. Easy peasy, even if cake decorating isn’t your talent!

He doesn’t look too happy with his cake!

He just wanted to eat it. Now THAT’S how you do a 1st birthday cake!

I made simple party hats out of cardstock. As you can see, I cut out shapes for the mouths and eyebrows and used wiggly eyes. The pipecleaners made perfect arms; I just stabbed them through on the sides and added a little dab of hot glue to hold the end in place. I used hot glue for the pom-poms as well. These were really fun to make and the kids loved picking out their favorite hat to wear.

I found these adorable monster stickers that I used with balloons to let the kids create their own monsters.

I’m not a fan of goodie bags with cheap items that break or get thrown away. I’d rather give something practical, that will be used and enjoyed. I found these adorable monster lollipops, monster plushies and monster bubbles. The kids were able to take home one of each when they left and in the meantime, they added to the décor on the party table.

My friend made these great Frankenstein rice krispy treats. These would be fun for Halloween, too!

Lastly, we made a monster melon for display with our fruit.

It was simple but sweet; a perfect party theme for our little monster! Tell me what you think in the comments!
