“My Favorite Things” Christmas Party

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,

Brown copper kettles and warm woolen mittens

Brown paper packages tied up with strings,

These are a few of my favorite things.”

(Are you singing the song in your head?)

Okay, okay. Cheesy opening, I know. But my friend just had a “My Favorite Things” party and every time the party theme is mentioned, music plays in my head. I played that song for a piano recital when I was a young girl and watched “The Sound of Music” countless times with my mom while growing up. How can I not sing along when I hear that phrase?

Like I just mentioned, my dear friend, Lindsey, just threw the most fun Christmas party with the theme of “My Favorite Things.” She has been talking about doing this party for years, and she finally did it this year! It was such a fun night out with the girls. Good food, good company, and good fun! The gist of the party is this: each person brings their favorite thing, times three, wrapped up to give away at the party. So you choose one favorite thing and buy three of them.

When you first enter the party, you set your wrapped gifts on the table and write your name on three separate slips of paper, putting them in a bag or jar when finished. At game time, everyone sits in a circle and passes around the bag with the slips of names. When the bag is passed to you, you pick out 3 names and give your gifts to those 3 people. As they unwrap, you explain why you chose that item as your favorite thing. Every person ends up with 3 different gifts. It was a lot of fun to see what everyone loved and why, and super fun to go home with 3 gifts at the end of the night!

I loved this party so much that I wanted to share the idea here! Sadly, I didn’t get any pictures (what kind of blogger am I???) In my defense, it was a long day and an even longer week; I was in charge of our Christmas party at church which was that same evening and I was actually party hopping that night. By the time I got to Lindsey’s party, I was ready to relax and chill with my lady friends. I didn’t think to get out my camera.

Anyhoo, I wanted to share the 3 things I got because I absolutely love each one. Lindsey put a $10 limit on our gifts and I think that was a good amount. We saw a lot of great gifts!

The first gift I received were scentsy bars. I LOVE scentsy, so this was the perfect gift for me! If you’ve never tried Scentsy before, find your local rep and try it out. You can find it on Amazon, but it’s a lot more expensive so I hesitate to even post a link. I’m sure you know someone within your circle that can hook you up with some Scentsy!

The second gift I received was nothing short of a miracle in a bottle. I’d never seen this before, but I will forever be grateful this product entered my life! I present to you, “Poo-porri”. Holy moly, where has this been all my life?? Now that I think about it, I do remember my aunt telling me about this stuff. I can see why she raves about it! Give the toilet bowl 3-5 spritzes of this magical goodness before you poo, and you won’t smell a thing when you’re done! Can we say AMAZING? So many wonderful things come of this little miracle. Like, I can go to a friend or family member’s house and as long as I have my pooporri in my purse, nobody will ever have to know what business I have to handle in the bathroom; the evidence will never be smelled! I can also go to sleep at night without smelling my husband’s evening duties permeating from the bathroom. He told me not to throw him under the bus in this post. “Everyone poops” he says. That’s true. We’ll just leave it at that. Let’s just say I can go to bed a little less grumpy at night.

The third gift I got was a 3 pack of reusable, foldable grocery bags. Here in California we have to pay 10 cents a bag when we go to the store, so I always bring mine from home. Except for when I forget, which happens a lot. These bags are not only cute, but they fold up small and you can put them in your purse, so you never forget a bag! I put mine in my purse right away and wouldn’t you know it, we went out Christmas shopping and I forgot my dang bags at home! Lucky for me, I had these in my purse, so I didn’t have to buy even more bags. They are a good size too; you can really fit a lot inside these suckers! Here’s the exact pack I got:

I’d say I lucked out on my gifts, but really, everyone brought great gifts. I had a hard time thinking of what to bring. I have so many favorite things! But when I was out shopping, I found these adorable Rae Dunn notebooks at TJ Maxx. I love Rae Dunn products, and I love to write, so it fit perfectly with “My Favorite Things.”

I can’t wait to do this again next year! What are some of your favorite things? Drop your comments below!
